EUROPA NOSTRA deeply concerned about plans for the Heumarkt

in the historic heart of Vienna

 

The Hague, 1 March 2017 – The leading European heritage organisation EUROPA NOSTRA stronglyopposes the redevelopment plans for the Heumarkt in the UNESCO listed Historic Centre of Vienna. The present proposals for the high-rise redevelopment of the Heumarkt concerning the Ice-Skating Club, the Concert Hall and the Vienna Hotel Intercontinental threatens the World Heritage Status of the Historic Centre of Vienna of which the Heumarkt is an integral part. EUROPA NOSTRA therefore urges all stakeholders to bring the project in line with the recommendations of UNESCO and ICOMOS Reactive Monitoring Mission report.

Sie lachen. Doch einem Schlossbesitzer vergeht eigentlich recht schnell das Lachen. Wer heutzutage ein Schloss sein Eigen nennt, hat in der Tat manchmal das Gefühl, nicht ganz bei Trost zu sein. Denn was vor vielen Generationen entstanden ist und in der öffentlichen Wahrnehmung etwas Märchenhaftes an sich hat, hat sich in den letzten Jahrzehnten für viele zur Bürde entwickelt: Die Kosten steigen ins Unermessliche, die Nachfolgeregelung der oft abgelegenen Häuser gestaltet sich oft schwierig und die österreichische Steuergesetzgebung trägt ihr Übriges dazu bei, dass aus dem Märchenprinz ein Pleitegeier werden kann. I am glad to announce that I successfully finished my studies. On Monday I’ll be officially graduated. 🙂

 My thesis got approved and eventually received a grade 1 (although as the author I would already change several things by now.)

Madrid, 24 May 2016 – The winners of the 2016 EU Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards, Europe’s top honour in the field, were celebrated this evening during a high-profile event at the Zarzuela Theatre in Madrid. Maestro Plácido Domingo, President of Europa Nostra, the leading heritage organisation in Europe, and Tibor Navracsics, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, co-hosted the European Heritage Awards Ceremony and presented the 7 Grand Prix and the Public Choice Award, chosen from among the 28 winning projects of this year.

The 7 Grand Prix laureates, selected by independent expert juries and entitled to receive €10,000 each, are:
